Save Mobile Battery Tips

Check what’s using battery life

You can check your battery’s usage here: Settings -> Battery. This will give you information of your battery life consumes by applications and services. You can force stop any unwanted applications/services if you don’t like what it does to your battery levels.

And also Uninstall any apps that you hardly ever use.

Lower timeout/auto-lock limit

In Android phones, the screen time-out starts from 15 seconds and in some Apple devices the screen time-out starts from 1 minute. Keeping this at the lowest setting ensures that your screen turns off soon after you’ve stopped using the device.

The display is one of the major drains on batteries, so it’s best to allow it to power down quicker. Besides, you might forget to click the standby button, which will cause the device to remain fully powered on for a full minute or so, and eat the battery.

Upload and sync only on Wifi (Wireless Network)

Ensure that you keep the syncing and app update settings to Wi-Fi only unless you are in an extreme hurry to get your Dropbox synced with your office/work system. Uploading or download heavy files using a data connection while commuting tends to use up more battery life as the phone radios are working harder to maintain a connection. Turn off auto0update on all apps.

Avoid Ad-supported apps

Although ads allow you to try apps without buying them, which is a great deal, it’s not always a good idea for your battery. These apps are designed to keep updating the ads, usually over your net connection. Make sure you don’t use ad-supported apps when your battery level is low.

Avoid Live Wallpaper, Haptic Widgets

Live wallpapers and widgets are android features which make it stand out, but these features also drain the battery. Widgets are polling the apps servers to stay updated. If you are not using an app regularly, then there is no point in having it. Haptic feedback found on mobile phones and tablets is another feature that we can live without as it tends to eat up battery life every time you feel the feedback.

Apps running in the background

Keep a check on the number of apps running in the background. In Android, you can hold the home button down and swipe off unwanted apps, whereas in iOS you can double tap the home button which pulls up the apps running in the background.

Turn off non-essential notifications

Every app that you download has its own set of notifications. You need to make sure to use the notifications wisely. Every time your app polls for notifications, it pulls them to your device over the net, gives you a sound alert or a visual alert which uses up CPU cycles, and thus also the battery. When you start up those apps you get all that information anyway, so why leave your device hunting for them when you’re not interested in them at the moment anyway?
